This supportive housing project sits at the intersection of Broadway and the 880 freeway in Oakland, CA. Walking the length of Broadway, I became interested in the ability of apertures to exist as both planar and dimensional elements. The resulting “chunk” model is an agglomeration of diverted perspectives reminiscent of traveling down the busy thoroughfare. This “chunk” was extended to create housing that snakes alongside the freeway, transforming the narrow lot into an opportunity to shelter Oakland's homeless population. The third floor connects to a proposed pedestrian and bike path on the freeway to imagine a future without cars.
